Welcome to the home of Jonathan Jones. A software professional who likes to take photos and review things living in Switzerland.
One more dive into history with the 2009 edition of The Rough Guide to the Internet. I explore how much - and how little - the web has changed since the era of MySpace, the iPhone 3G, iGoogle, and the rise of broadband.

Monday, June 2, 2025The Isle of Arran is the Scottish island I have visited most often. This time we stayed in Whiting Bay. I enjoyed a hike up Arran’s highest point - Goatfell, lots of good food and even took an Alpaca for a walk.
Saturday, June 29, 2024Using Zapier’s free plan I attempt to automatically trigger the Github action workflow which publishes this website, whenever I add a new Out of Ten review to my Notion database.
Saturday, March 2, 2024My second trip report to Edinburgh - this time it was for the mini zookeeper experience at Edinburgh Zoo, a visit to Edinburgh Castle and the adjacent Camera Obscura. Edinburgh really loses none of its appeal over time and is a must visit.
Monday, November 13, 2023Tobermory was the filming location for the Balamory children’s TV show. We visited for one week to find the Balamory houses, enjoy some great food and take in all of the wonderful nature and wildlife on Scotland’s Isle of Mull.

Wednesday, April 24, 2019Feels like a proper Star Wars story. And a great telling of Imperial over-reach and how the resistance starts to form. This is the first Star Wars TV show I have watched and it’s really good.
Steve Coogan holds this together and the story of how customs officers went undercover is riveting. But it’s clear the story that this tells never happened, which loses it points.
It holds up ok. Not quite at the level of the original Indiana Jones films, but it‘s watchable.

There are some interesting ice cream flavours available at L’Artisan Glacier, Zurich - mine was walnut and maple syrup. I just really dislike the machine asking for a tip, when it’s counter service.

Today Switzerland votes on the 10 Million Switzerland Initiative. The letterbox has been full of leaflets for and against it. In brief the population of Switzerland is currently 9.1 million. If the initiative succeeds the population cannot exceed 10 million by 2050 and if it gets to 9.5 million before, some drastic action must be taken; which would trigger a Swiss Brexit of sorts.
This is a popular initiative - triggered by collecting 100,000 signatures. And if the vote succeeds Switzerland will have to implement it.
We should find out the result later today. It looks very close.
